Using a Torque Wrench
Run Down Resistance
To overcome the difficulty of properly reading torque wrenches where you have a condition of damaged threads or when you're using certain types of lock nuts to produce a run-down resistance, simply add the torque resistance to the manufacturer's specifications.
Be sure run-down resistance is measured on the last rotation, because in the case of damaged threads or rusted threads, if they become polished off at this point, a corrected reading would be necessary.
The ideal situation is, of course, to clean all parts and correct the run-down resistance problem if it is not engineered into the fastener product.
