Technical Interviews and Observations
For example, when observing the calibration of a torque wrench, the assessor should observe that the technician respects direction (clockwise or counterclockwise) as called for in the procedure or in the client's purchase order. The auditor would also want to be sure that the technician exercises the wrench a few times in the chosen direction before calibrating.
The auditor should never give tips or hints to the person being interviewed until the process is complete and observed. Technical managers and/or supervisors should not be allowed to interfere or step in when an authorized person is demonstrating performance of a measurement, as this calls into question the technician's competence and ability, as well as the laboratory's training and authorization processes.
