Tolerance and Distribution

Statisticians and scientists have long known that the rectangular distribution is not a good description of real life.

When a process operates smoothly, without disruption or deliberate changes, the result is usually best described by a different distribution - the Normal or Gaussian, represented by the familiar bell curve, as shown at right.
