One way they differ is in the resolution, or how closely they can track time.

• The sundial can track time to the nearest hour.
• The hourglass can track time to the nearest minute.
• The mechanical clock can track time to the nearest second.
• This electronic timer can track time to the nearest hundredths or thousandths of a second.
