Conversion
Torque can be expressed in several types of units when expressing a wrench's capacity.
The same units are used to specify a limit set or audit target for a fastener.
Converting from one unit of measurement to another is done by applying a conversion factor.
Conversion Factors:
- One ft. lb. = 1.35582 Newton Meters
- One Newton Meter = One Newton Meter
- One ft. lb = .138255 kilogram meters
- One kilogram meter = 7.23301 ft. lb.
For example:
- If one ft. lb = 1.35582 Newton Meters
- and you have a torque wrench measuring 458 ft. lbs
- and you want to determine the torque in Newton Meters
- next convert from ft. lb. to Nm by multiplying 458 x 1.35582 = 620.97 Nm
- so a 458 ft. lb. of torque is also 620.97 Nm.
